As a Charter School, ECS has the autonomy to develop its pedagogy, and our faculty and staff not only play a role in its implementation but also its creation. Staff have the ability to take ownership of their classrooms and create their own lesson plans. ECS empowers teachers to guide mission aligned curriculum and pedagogy decisions, fostering teacher agency.

While it is not guaranteed that your child will be accepted at ECS, employees are given preference in the lottery. Applications are due on Jan. 31 to be considered for the lottery. All applications received after Jan. 31 are added to the post-lottery waiting list.

ECS’s Paid Time Off (PTO) is based on an employee’s number of years with the organization.

• All ten (10) month full-time employees are entitled to seven to ten (7-10) days of paid time off (PTO) (prorated according to the employee’s hire date) in any school year.

• All twelve (12) month full-time employees are entitled to fifteen to eighteen (15-18) days of paid time off (PTO) (prorated according to the employee’s hire date) in any school year.

• A maximum of 20 days total (10-month employees), and 24 days total (12-month employees) may be carried into each employee’s PTO bank for the upcoming year.

Professional Development
Faculty receive 3 half-day professional development days during the school year through ECS’s associate directors of curriculum and professional development. In addition to these half days, full-time employees are granted 2 paid professional development leave days and part-time/temporary employees are eligible for 1 paid professional development leave day per year.

Planning Days
ECS provides its faculty with a minimum of two planning days each quarter as well as up to 4 floating days a year. In addition to full-day planning time, staff also leverage various half-day planning throughout the school year. If summer planning is required, teachers are compensated at a workshop rate for each summer planning day.
